Querybara ships installers for macOS, Windows and Linux on x64 and arm64. Download them from the releases page on GitHub. Each release also carries SHA256SUMS.txt with the checksums of the installers.

Platform Packages Architectures
macOS DMG Universal (Apple silicon and Intel)
Windows NSIS installer (.exe), MSI, zip x64 and arm64 (one NSIS installer holds both)
Linux AppImage, deb, rpm x64 and arm64

Flatpak is not built.

  1. Download the DMG from the releases page. It is a universal build, so the same file runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
  2. Open the DMG and drag Querybara to the Applications folder.
  3. Open Querybara from Applications.

If the build is not signed (see Unsigned test builds), macOS blocks it the first time it opens. Allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then open it again.

Release builds are signed and notarised when the project’s signing certificates are set up for the release. Test builds (from pull requests and branch runs, or built locally with pnpm --filter @querybara/desktop package) are not signed and have no update feed:

  • macOS asks you to allow them in System Settings → Privacy & Security the first time they open.
  • They never check for updates. The About box says “test build”.

Installed release builds check GitHub for a new version 30 seconds after start-up and every 4 hours, and download it in the background. When it is ready, a notice says “Querybara x.y.z is ready” and offers Restart now. Except for deb and rpm installs, the update also installs when you quit. To check at once, choose Check for Updates… in the Help menu (in the Querybara menu on macOS).

Installed from How it updates
macOS DMG Updates itself when the build is signed and notarised.
Windows NSIS installer Updates itself when the build is code-signed.
Windows MSI or zip Install the new version yourself (or redeploy it).
Linux AppImage Updates itself.
Linux deb or rpm Updates on Restart now, after your system asks for an administrator password.

Open the About box (About Querybara in the Help menu, or in the Querybara menu on macOS; or Help: About Querybara in the command palette) and choose the Updates tab. Update channel offers Stable and Beta:

  • Stable follows the latest release that is not a pre-release.
  • Beta takes the newest release of either kind, so it gets new versions first.

Switching from beta back to stable never downgrades: the app stays on its beta until a newer stable version ships. Check for updates automatically turns the background checks off; the menu item keeps working.

Administrators can turn updates off or pin the channel for every user of a machine. See Updates and channels for the policy settings and staged rollouts.
